NSC Newsletter #15, September 12th

-Important—
The NSC will be changing slightly how we send out newsletters. Please visit your "Update your member settings" option link on your "My NSC" page (My NSC link on left menu) to determine which and how often you get the NSC Newsletters. I understand some people do not log on to the NSC site very often and may have forgotten their password/username. Not to fear; there is a nifty password reset option on the log on screen which makes logging in painless and easy. The steps once in are pretty simple too:
1. www.ridensc.com
2. Click on “Login/Logout” in the left menu under “member links” and login
3. Click “My NSC” in the same left menu
4. In that page click “Update Member Settings”
5. Read through the options and update your preferences to whichever you would prefer.
There you go, easy as that! While you’re logged in why not post a message on the front page and let everyone know how you’re doing. If you have any problems please let myself or James know and we will do our best to assist you.

-Ride Re-cap: This weekend’s ride was up to Cherokee rd. This ride was amazing as always. Bucks Lake was a little dirt from boats going up and down but everywhere else was perfectly clean. I lost track of how many times I was airborne on Cherokee. I felt like I was dirt biking again. Thanks to everyone who came out.

Sunday ride:
When: 9/19
Where: Ebbets
Location: Carson
Departs: 9am
Should be a fun ride, 4 is always a good ride. Some parts are technical, but they are all fun.

-Coming Ride Schedule
9/26 Gold Lake (Reno)

8/3 Ice House (Carson)
8/10 Blairsden (Reno)
8/17 Iron Mountian (Carson)
8/21 La Porte (Reno)

If you have any rides you’ve heard of and think we might want to check out as a group, please forward them on. We are always looking into new and exciting roads.

-Real news!
Pocket Bike Racing will be starting up again here soon, so we revamped the PBR site and are getting it ready for a new season. Clean out your carbs and buy some new knee pads, because pocket bikes are back!

-Open Question to Members: The NSC has a many registered members, some of which participate either on rides or the web page or both, and many do not. My question is; what can we do as a club to help you get out riding/participating again? Any and all suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Click here or the Re: button to reply.

-Track Days/Racing: As many of us do track days, I thought it would be a good idea to post up some of the local group’s track days. If you know of any others please let me know and I will add them to the list.
TTP Racing: October 24th and 25th. If you did not catch the last race, you still have one chance. Don’t pass this up.

-Ride Re-cap: Last weeks ride was around the RFR track watching the TTP race. For those who weren’t able to make it; you missed out! One of the most amazing races I’ve ever seen.
The licensed class went like much of this years (early) MotoGP races where Jimmy Wood (AMA fast guy) took the lead and kept it for the whole race. The interesting part was with Local guys Eddie Virgil and Andy Allen fighting for 2nd place.
By far the best race of the day was the Street class. Chad Canepa and Myron Bergstrom both fought it out for the whole race, changing positions multiple times per lap. In the lat lap Myron led Chad into the bowl, with Chad inches behind him. Chad took the inside line and pushed Myron out on the exit. They both shot down and came around turn 23 in that order. With them both screaming down the front straight toward the checkered flag, Myron drafted behind Chad and slingshotted past him right at the finish line, only wining by a bikes length. Crazy Race!
Check 4theriders for pics. Videos of the race (15+ cameras on track) to follow. Sunday ride:
When: 9/12
Where: Cherokee
Location: Carson
Departs: 9am

9/12 Cherokee (Reno)
9/19 Ebbets (Carson)
9/26 Gold Lake (Reno)

NSC Newsletter #11 Aug 16th

Ride Re-cap: Had a little bit of a late start, but back out to swimming by Downeyville. Great turn out Sunday. Just the right amount of people. Road was clear and pristine. Ran into a Harley rider who had put a car tire on the back of his motorcycle; he thought it was great, the rest of us wondered how it could turn at all. 30,000 miles on a rear tire is kind of tempting thought. Only hiccup for the whole day was when Chad threw his back out in the river; still not sure how he was able to ride back. I could barely breathe last time I did that, much less ride.

Advice Corner: Tire pressures always seem to be an area for which not much is know. What should I run front and back? Different tires, different feels… here is a small list, giving you a good starting point for PSI. By all means these are not hard rules, and should be adjusted to feel.

Open Question to Members: The NSC has a many registered members, some of which participate either on rides or the web page or both, and many do not. My question is; what can we do as a club to help you get out riding/participating again? Any and all suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Click here or the Re: button to reply.

Bike Night: 2WCP is hosting a bike night at Boulevard Pizza every Thursday @ 6:30. Tony and Steve are great guys, check it out.
1076 North Rock Boulevard Sparks, NV 89431

Have a local business? Want to reach out to other NSC members? Contact James or Morgan and let’s see if we can work out some kind of partnership.

Advice Corner: Breaking off from the other maintenance related stuff I had previously been posting, here is a how to on safety wiring your motorcycle. Track season is upon us and some might be track prepping the bikes. This would definitely help out some of the first timers with the safety wire.

Ride Re-cap: Several people came out to enjoy Sundays ride out to Ice House/Wentworth springs. Ice house was amazing as always and very clean for this time of year. Wentworth however was still full of snow. After playing in the snow for a few min we decided to go back down Ice House, down 50, then over to Monitor for a little more fun. It was a great day and we all got phone numbers from women who were old enough to be our mothers :)

Upcoming Sunday rides:
When: 5/23
Where:Cherokee
Meets:Reno
Departs:10

John's Ride is coming up again soon. On the first Sunday in June we mark the beginning of another year of the NSC, by riding the favorite ride of our founder, John Petty, in his honor. Even if you can't make the ride, please show up to see everyone off as we take a group photo that day which is sent to John's family. This year it will be on June 6th.

Ride Re-cap: Last Sunday was supposed to be up to Gold Lake rd, but due to weather and limited schdules for Mothers day, we opted instead for a ride up Giger, out 6 mile canyon and then back up the truck route and back to Reno. We did catch a little bit of rain out in Dayton, but nothing too bad at all. 6 mile, Truck Route and Giger were all beautiful.

When: 5/16
Where:Ice House
Meets:Carson

Advice Corner: Many new riders are unsure about some of the basic maintenance required, stuff like chain adjustments and oil changes so i am going to try to focus on those for a while. I was going to write up a whole post on how to correctly adjust and maintain your chain, but i found this page which would put anything i wrote to shame.
